Move It Pic

Iliffe Arts Ltd lead teacher Kat attended the 2014 MOVEIT national dance conference at London’s Olympia on Saturday 8th March. There were lots of stalls, stages, master classes and performances featuring many different dance genres including inspirational performances from Lukas McFarlane, the winner of the 2013 SKY TV show ‘Got to Dance’. There was also personal appearances and signings from Diversity, a street dance crew who were finalists of TV talent show ‘Britain’s Got talent’ in 2012

Kat enjoyed participating in teacher’s work shops including ‘An introduction to authentic Street Dance’, led by ‘Sun Sun’, a successful B Girl choreographer working for the Royal Academy of Dance. During the class Kat learned old school moves such as locking, popping and break dancing. Kat also attended a ‘Dance in the National Curriculum’ seminar delivered by the (NDTA) National Dance Teachers Association. This seminar focussed on Dance in the new National Curriculum launching in September 2014, from key stage 1 upwards.

Kat reported that ‘’It was a long day but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would defiantly recommend it to any dance lover. One of the highlights for me was speaking to the (WDSA) Wheelchair Dance & Sports Association, who are the national governing body for wheelchair dance and sport that aim to stop wheel chair users being excluded from dance and physical activity. I am looking forward to possibly working with them in the future so that Iliffe Arts can offer wheelchair dancing.’’
